CULTURAL TOUR MUSEUMS AT CASCO ANTIGUO

The Biomuseo in Panama City is one of the brightest and most colorful jewels to appear on the urban landscape of this major metropolis. The Canadian-born star architect, Frank Gehry, masterminded the innovative design of the building, which counts as his first work in Latin America. The 8 permanent galleries of the museum provide a fascinating insight into how life on our planet changed forever when the Isthmus of Panama emerged many millions of years ago. The Mola Museum opened in December 2019 was created to give relevance to the ancient culture of the Guna people represented in the mola. The mola is an indigenous textile art sewn into panels with complex designs, beautiful colors and multiple layers using a reverse appliqué technique that identifies the Guna community in Panama, whose origin comes from the custom of women to paint their bodies with geometric figures. Normally, the Gunas use the molas to place them in the chest area in their dresses that, little by little, and like fashion, are evolving. You will enjoy a beautiful display of many pieces at this small one floor quaint museum.

Opened in 1997, the Panama Canal Museum promotes and rescues the historical memory of Panama and its Canal, being one of the most important tourist destinations in the country.

The tour tells you the faithful testimony of our importance as a transisthmian route, the studies, explorations, and the difficult process of building the Canal.
